Adgaming - Promoting inclusive gaming for people with dementia

This free, half day workshop aims to provide practitioners and carers with advice on using gaming technologies and activities to enrich the lives of people with dementia. Worksop attendees will be presented with current research within this field from academics at Bournemouth University and Sheffield University as well have the opportunity to engage with some of the new platforms that have been created to promote inclusive activities for people with dementia. These include a:

• European online training platform to support dementia practitioners to use Serious Games (games for promoting mental well-being) with people with dementia and exchange knowledge with other practitioners working across Europe
• Framework that enables dementia practitioners to assess the accessibility of iPad apps for people with dementia
• Virtual Reality Platform to raise awareness of dementia and provide insight into living with the condition
• An online training platform and Virtual café to support the use of commercial gaming technology (iPads, Nintendo Wii and Xbox Kinect) with people with dementia
